North Tees and Hartlepool NHS Foundation Trust
The Trust’s governor elections had an increased level of interest from members at the nomination stage, this flowed through into the ballot stage where turnout levels achieved our target levels. This bucked the decreasing turnout trend that has been seen with foundation trust elections.
North Tees and Hartlepool NHS Foundation Trust provides hospital and community based health care to around 365,000 people living in East Durham, Hartlepool, Stockton-on-Tees and surrounding areas and part of Sedgefield.
The Trust wanted to increase interest in the election by providing members with engaging and attractive electoral documents and systems, designed in line with the Trust’s brand identity.
What we did
The brief was to re-design all of the election documentation incorporating the Trust’s current branding and with engagement of the member at the forefront of the design process.
How we did it
We used images and colour to provide members with an immediate visual link with the Trust and to highlight the important aspects of an elected governor’s role. With all the printed material designed as part of a family of documents we were able to take members on a seamless journey through the election. The member’s journey started with an awareness campaign that was focused around an eye-catching postcard promoting the nomination procedure. Members who requested nomination material received documents that used colour and space to guide them through the completion of the form.
Completing the members’ journey with the ballot material, we provided vibrant full colour ballot papers and candidate election statement booklets. The emphasis in the election statement booklets was to personalise the candidates for the members by an increased use of the candidate’s photos and thereby to encourage the members to use their vote. The ballot stage of the election was supported by the addition of an election microsite. The microsite made all of the ballot information readily accessible to members enabling them to make an informed decision when voting.
