Ballots and Elections

EXPERIENCE AND EXPERTISE

Electoral Reform Services and trade unions share a long history of working together. We first administered ballots for rail and mining unions more than a century ago.

Trade union balloting has represented the foundation of our company’s business for many years. Since the passage of legislation in the 1980s, Electoral Reform Services has built up the most comprehensive and invaluable knowledge of the relevant statutes governing balloting in this area. Crucially, we also have vast experience of the application of its provisions since the passing of trade union acts, specifically the following:

  • Trade Union and Labour Relations (Consolidation) Act 1992;
  • Trade Union Reform and Employment Rights Act 1993; and
  • Employment Relations Act 1999.

We have dedicated Project Managers in the trade union sector. Together with the management team they have over 100 years’ experience and an indepth understanding of this heavily legislated area.

The benefits of our in-house services are numerous:

  • full control of the process from beginning to end;
  • security;
  • significant cost savings that are passed on to trade unions;
  • quick response times and turnaround; and
  • development of knowledge of working with individual trade unions in all aspects of balloting.

Electoral Reform Services also has extensive experience of conducting industrial action ballots for trade unions. Our Industrial Action team has been assisting trade unions in this crucial area since the inception of legislation 17 years ago. Over this period we have gained valuable knowledge and practical experience. In the last four years we have, on average, despatched in excess of one million industrial action voting papers annually.

In the event the law is changed to allow alternative methods of voting, Electoral Reform Services is well placed to assist trade unions in utilising effectively the opportunities these changes will bring to their electoral projects. Electoral Reform Services has conducted online balloting for other clients for more than ten years and currently administer hundreds of these projects annually.

Once the law is finally changed to allow the introduction of alternative methods of voting, Electoral Reform Services is well placed to assist trade unions in utilising effectively the opportunities these changes will bring to their electoral projects.
